I’ve been living abroad for 13 years, and I’ve built my entire life and business from overseas.
When I first moved abroad in 2013, I joined a program that promised support and handed me a contract that would have cost my entire year's salary to escape. I ended up underpaid, isolated, and starting from scratch in a foreign country with no real guidance.
It wasn't freedom. It was a hard lesson that changed everything about how I approach this.
Instead of going home, I started paying close attention to what actually makes a move abroad work long term. Income, visas, cost of living, taxes, and real sustainability. Not just getting abroad, but building a life worth staying for.
Over the years I've lived in six countries, earned my master's degree abroad, saved $40,000 in two years as a college counselor, and transitioned from traditional jobs to freelancing to building my own business entirely from overseas.
I want to be clear about that last part. I didn't build a six-figure business before I moved and then relocate. I built it while living abroad. Last year my business generated $785,000. All of it from overseas.
